It’s been a long time coming. Mandy de Waal’s article on TwitterSA finally made it on to ITWeb, and as expected, there was a subsequent surge of traffic.
What I was not expecting, to be perfectly honest, was Gnip suddenly deciding to shut itself down. Some time around 7pm local time, tweets were suddenly no longer being pushed to TwitterSA, the live stream froze, and I didn’t know a thing about it until I logged on about 30 minutes ago.
A few quick tests confirmed it - everything’s working except the feed from Gnip, which is something I have no control over. I’ve emailed them about it, and hopefully we can reach a solution within the next 24 hours.
The timing, for lack of a better word, sucked.
I’m really sorry about this, but there’s nothing I can do just yet. I’ll continue to update this post as I get updates to share.
Update (12:50AM): Just got an email back from one of the Gnip developers. He’s looking in to it, and will keep me updated.
Update (09:03AM): It’s all back up and running. I haven’t checked for any responses from the Gnip developers yet, but it’s good to see them tweets coming in again :)

Great going for the article, pity about the feed though - again GOOD ONE!
