Journey of a Dragon

New month, new look
Posted at: 5:53 am on Sunday, 3rd August, 2008

Not that I intend on altering the theme every month, but it is August, and there is a new theme up on WoganMay.com , so I figured I might as well post about both at once.

Yes, I know I’ve been very quiet lately. At the beginning of July, I took over the reporting function in the Search marketing team - that was quite a ride. Now it’s a month later, lessons have been learned, and hopefully this time round, things will go a lot smoother.

I’ve also been putting together new blogs and sites like crazy, only to have the host vanish into thin air. Seriously. I’ve tried all means of contact (facebook, email, twitter), but they just don’t respond. Because of this, I’ve lost a lot of otherwise-helpful data for TwitterSA , the last working version of Linkroll, and a few blogs which I’ve only just gotten around to again. Not a very pleasent thing to have happen to you halfway through the month.

On the web-app-related scene, Foxinni just somehow managed to appear on my doorstep, and work his way into the design for TwitterSA. It looks better now (what else would you expect?). Much, much better, actually. Expect some announcement around that next week - and cross your fingers that the hosting gremlins don’t come back.

I managed to get Final Fantasy VII working on my PC! I’ve been wanting to play this game for a very, very long time, and late one night, I somehow managed to get it fired up. And me fired up. I almost forgot it was a Wednesday night :/

There’s still some stupid error around a specific mini-game. Hopefully I can get Win 98 running under VirtualPC sometime next week, to alleviate this problem. Not too many games break down under later OSes, heh.

Movie-wise: I saw three movies in the last month that I’ve been wanting to see for a while. I think I’ll be reviewing each of them seperately - that’ll make for 4 blog posts this morning. In summary, though - The Dark Knight was good, Jumper was better, I am Legend was terrible.

About the new WoganMay.com theme: The point of the last theme was to look better than the last one before that, which I think it succeeded on. But after coming across this piece of CSS wonder called “Puzzled”, I decided to remodel WoganMay.com to place greater emphasis on the content. Make it more accessible.

The Facebook-like design you see here now was created to achieve that. I originally thought it would be easy to copy down the Facebook HTML/CSS code and reverse-engineer the layout - boy, was that a mistake. Do yourself a favor and check out the sheer amount of code used to render those pages. Incredible.

As it was, I started out with a table (Foxinni will have a field day about that), 960px of width, and a lot of borrowed pointers from Kubrick. I think it works.

Well, then, on to the rest of my blogs. I need to write a few more posts for BlogForge, maybe catch up on Afraid , then I’ll get to reviewing those movies.

If you have any thoughts around the new theme, I’d love to hear them :)

I like the new theme. Especially the recent posts on the right sidebar.

Thanks :) Yes, that was the original goal of having unique images per post. A list of titles is so five minutes ago.

I like the new theme. You’re the only person I know that says TDK was “good”. Even my parents think it was off the charts. Then again, I know you way too well.

I suppose I’ll have to explain why I’m not raving like everyone else at some point. Yes, I like the new theme too… lol
